My oldest son was fascinated with games. So, of course, I thought of games to play that would make the transition from diapers to big-boy pants fun. The game began by singing a tune and imitating the “potty dance” on the way to the toilet. Watching me trying to trot with legs held closely together brought tears of laughter to both of us.
In the beginning I cut out various shapes of toilet paper and would have him “sink” the paper shapes as he went potty in the toilet. This allowed him to unknowingly perfect his aim.
He is now a grown man with children of his own. When his daughter was ready to transition from diapers I modified the game a bit. “Potty in the Potty Chair” jingle was created (available free online). She loved drawing so she would decide what shapes she wanted to “sink”. Markers became the “ink” used to draw the images and the phrase “sink the ink” was born. Charts that marked successes and attempts once again became a part of my home décor.
